RIVER CONDITIONS

Surveillance Flight UPDATE # 3

A river surveillance flight was conducted and the following was noticed:

KWATOHOHEGAN RIVER – River still intact, but showing signs of break up.

CHEEPAS RIVER – Did not check this river.

MISSINABIE RIVER –Breaking up ice is free flowing.

MATTAGMAI RIVER – Ice is free flowing.

ABITIBI RIVER – Still intact.

FRENCH RIVER – Break up is 1.5 km to the mouth.

SOUTH BLUFF CREEK – Broken up.

MOOSE RIVER – Break up is now at the south tip of Hayes Island on the Moose Factory side and on Moosonee side break up is 6 km from the town. The water at break up is high but again it is normal for an ice jam. The water behind the break up is still normal and will continue to be monitored.

The flow rates and water levels being monitored on the Moose River is normal and other rivers remain normal for this time of the year.

Another flight will take place this evening to monitor water level behind the break up.

The Moose Factory Island Emergency Management Urges ALL Residents to remain off the river.
PLEASE KEEP CHILDREN AWAY FROM THE RIVER BANKS.
