RIVER CONDITIONS
Surveillance Flight UPDATE #4

A river surveillance flight was conducted this evening and the following was noticed:

KWATABOHEGAN RIVER – River still intact, but showing signs of break up.

CHEEPAS RIVER – broken up.

MISSINABIE RIVER – ice is free flowing.

MATTAGAMI RIVER – ice is free flowing.

ABITIBI RIVER – Broken up.

FRENCH RIVER – Break up is 1.5 km to the mouth.

SOUTH BLUFF CREEK – Broken up.

MOOSE RIVER – Moose Factory (south channel) break up has progressed throughout the day and at this point, break up is located at level with the Northern Quickstop, and its making it way through towards the west side of the island from the dykes. There is a lot of ice making its way down from up-river. The water behind the break up is still normal and will continue to be monitored. Moosonee (north channel) same with the south channel break up has progressed down towards the town of Moosonee and is located at McCauley’s Hill. There is not much ice coming down from the north channel.

Moose Factory Island Fire & Rescue will start the 24 hour River Surveillance tonight.

The flow rates and water levels of being monitored at the Moose River is normal. Other rivers remain normal for this time of the year.

Another flight will take place this evening to monitor water level behind the break up.

The Moose Factory Island Emergency Management urges ALL Residents to remain off the river.

PLEASE KEEP CHILDREN AWAY FROM THE RIVER BANKS.
