RIVER CONDITIONS

Surveillance Flight UPDATE # 2

A river surveillance flight was conducted this morning and the following was noticed:

KWATABOHEGAN RIVER – River still intact, but showing signs of break up.

CHEEPAS RIVER – River still intact, but showing signs of break up.

MISSINABIE RIVER – River still intact, but showing signs of break up.

MATTAGAMI RIVER – Mouth still intact, break up about 4-5 km upriver.

ABITIBI RIVER – Still intact.

FRENCH RIVER – Still intact.

SOUTH BLUFF CREEK – Still intact.

MOOSE RIVER – Break up is now 20 miles from the community located at the mouth of the Abitibi RIver and ice is jammed there.  The ice jam is about 3-5 km back and the flow level has dropped from yesterday’s numbers.  The water at the back is high at the moment, but it is normal when there is an ice jam.  The water behind the break up is still normal and will continue to be monitored.

The flow rates and water levels being monitored at Moose River are normal and other rivers remain normal for this time of year.

Another flight will take place tomorrow to monitor water level behind the break up.

The Moose Factory Island Emergency Management urges ALL residents to remain off the river.  Please keep all children away from the river banks.  Thank you for your cooperation in keeping everyone safe.
